Velos Rides for Sunday 11th August 2013

For anyone who isn’t doing one of the charity rides, we have a couple of suggestions for this Sunday.

8am Early Starter ride

This is a reverse of the big 62 mile loop around Luton and Leighton Buzzard that we did a few weeks back. We will be leaving at 8am and the pace is likely to be swift.

Early start 62 mile route

10am ride

Just in case there is anyone who doesn’t fancy an early start, and is not doing the charity ride, here is a route for a 10am start.

10am 28 mile route

Thanks

Many thanks to everyone who made the birthday tea ride very special for Elke today. We had a lovely cake stop in the woods at Ashridge with a great bunch of friends.

Sunday sponsored bike ride- there’s still time to sign up.

Rose and Crown, Ivinghoe.
Charity Cycle Ride
Sunday 11th August 2013.
Raising funds for Cancer UK

This will be the main Velos ride this Sunday, so it would be great to see a good turn out to support this worthy cause. PLEASE NOTE START TIMES FOR THE RIDE YOU ARE INTERESTED IN. The format is simple- you pay £15 to enter, no sponsorship money to collect, and the Rose and Crown provide a BBQ afterwards. We need people to sign up if they are interested so that the Rose and Crown know how many to cater for. There are three different routes offered- 10 miles, 25 miles both 1:30 start times, and 56 miles 11 am start. At the moment there are about 25-30 riders signed up, so get your places booked.

Register here and put the distance you wish to cycle in the comments box:

Routes and more information can be found on the pub website here:

Thank you for supporting this event.

Everyone has a Birthday…

..but I’m doing my best to string mine out for a whole week.

So this week, the Tea Ride will be the Birthday Tea Ride.  We will be riding over to The Monument at Ashridge (the nice way, not up the Beacon!),  where the lovely Mr Hegs will meet us with a car full of cake.

If you know that you are able to join us, just to give me an idea of numbers, please could you either reply to the email, comment on the Facebook post (Facebook.com/vinghoevelos), tweet us @vinghoevelos or drop us a line using the contact form on the website.  If you don’t know yet, absolutely fine – I’m sure we can find you a slice!

As ever, we leave at 10am on Saturday from The Rose & Crown, Ivinghoe.

Remember stay safe!

Did CB manage to keep up with Bono?
Did CB manage to keep up with Bono?

What an amazing weekend for the Vinghoe Velos with many taking on their own personal challenges demonstrating the breadth and true ethos of the Vinghoe Velos.  These challenges included:

  • Daphne taking on and completing her longest ever ride on the Saturday Tea ride (yes Daphne you did cycle to Leighton Buzzard and back!), thanks Elke for leading 🙂
  • Several people again riding out to Silverstone and back – well done Sarah on her longest ever ride
  • 8 Velos taking on and completing the RideLondon Surrey 100, “Go Hegs Go!”. Thanks JB for proudly wearing the jersey so good to see it as we climbed Box Hill – great job.
  • Mark ‘Bono’ Wilson taking on Chris Boardman’s favourite hills in the Lake District

That all said we were then reminded that we must stay safe when we learnt that ‘Leighton Buzzard’ Dave Dean was airlifted to hospital after an accident – although delighted to report he is out of hospital and on the mend, we are sure everyone wishes him a speedy recovery.

TUESDAY NIGHT RIDE

For those looking for a spin out tonight meeting at Pitstone Roundabout to leave at 7pm for 22 miles (options to shorten on route).  Route here
