Ho! Ho! Ho!

Illustration of Santa Claus seated for Christmas Dinner with empty plate and knife and fork

After the success of last years Christmas Night Out we are delighted to announce that we are returning to The Haldi (once of course he reopens following his kitchen refurbishments!

There will be an excellent set meal again offering vegetarian, pescatarian and carnivorous options. In addition to the set menu there will be popadoms and pickles served to stave off the hunger attack on arrival.

We  have 40 places available on a first come first booked basis with a £10 per person (non-refundable) deposit to Sally Beezer and it would be helpful to register with Sally the number of vegetarian and pescatarian requests just to assist with the balance of the final menu.    The price will be a total of £25 per head (therefore £15 payable on the night once your deposit has been paid!)

Its is proposed that those wanting ‘proper’ beer before their meal can muster in the Rose and Crown from 1900 before arriving at The Haldi at 2030 and of course the date is Friday 18th December!!

Other Rides

For those looking for a more traditional start time of 1000 here are 2 to consider, as always please remember to download the route onto your gadget thingys or bring a paper copy!

34 (rolling) miles

24 (Rolling!) miles

Several people have commented on making Vinghoe Velos a membership club and this is a serious consideration, likely membership would be £20-£30 per year.  As has been mentioned this would require a number of people to volunteer to take up official committee posts, including: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Ride Coordinator, Ride Leaders, Kit person, Social Secretary……………..what is everyone’s thoughts on this?  Could 2015 be the year, the 5th Anniversary year, that the iVinghoe Velos becomes affiliated??  Maybe one for discussion on the Rear Hub Facebook page?

From all at Velos Towers a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR

“So here it is Merry Christmas…………………”

                 It’s Party Time!!!!

Following various discussions and input from many of the group we have secured 40 spaces at the Haldi for the evening of Friday 19th December.

Meeting at the Haldi at 7pm for a ‘set meal’ @ £19.95 per person.

This provides a selection dishes; meat, chicken, vegetarian and prawn along with naan bread, rices etc……. for more details about the menu please speak to the Haldi.  Drinks will be each individuals responsibility.

We hope that following dinner many people will then take that short walk back to HQ (AKA The Rose and Crown) for a nightcap!

Partners are welcome, but numbers will be limited so will be allocated on a first come first served basis, using the booking form below and only once a £10 deposit has been received by Sally Beezer (thank you Sally for offering to co-ordinate this).

Late Summer Training Camp

For those of you that don’t know, the Hegarty’s have taken themselves off for a ‘serious’ training camp where Hegs has been teaching the Baby Badger ‘pro’ cycling team the art of leading out and covering miles and elevation.  Our roving reporter says it was not unheard of for John and his ‘stoker’ to come in last while the girls simply followed the teaching of the one and only Jensie shouting “shut up legs” as they tackled there 3rd Category 56 climb of the day, he is a hard task master as he hones the skills of the Baby Badger Team Pursuit and Time Trial Team.  It did make us think perhaps this is their next bike 🙂

Rides for tomorrow leaving the Rose and Crown at 1000 are again provided by Dave (route master) Bembridge, thanks Dave.  All route contributions greatly received!  Please make sure you have the route either on your GPS thingy or on a piece of paper.

Longer Route – 37 miles

Shorter Route – 23 miles

Whilst we will post the usual Velos rides next week several people have expressed a strong desire to support the ABF – The Soldiers Charity Ride from Stanbridge next Sunday, whilst being a great Charity, its based at a smashing boozer too ;-), details can be found here

Where it all began!

Back in June 2010 some fools thought about creating a social cycling group for all to enjoy.    With only a bit of lycra and hardly any carbon to be found we rode off to tackle our rides each Sunday.  So to remind us all what it looked like

The LONG ride from the 1st August that year becomes the short ride for tomorrow at 21 miles

THE SHORT ROUTE

Whilst the Longer route of 34 miles is taken from 2 years later and was designed by the Dave ‘The Hill’ Howe to celebrate the Olympics

THE LONG ROUTE

As always meeting at the Rose and Crown for a 10:00 am start returning soon after noon to rehydrate!

A BIG thank you to all that took part in Dave B’s Charity Ride last week, to Mark for arranging the music and of course to Gary and Kirk for generously sponsoring the burgers 🙂

Out and About

Tomorrow sees the annual Charity Bike Ride organised by Mr Bembridge and kindly supported with a FREE burger for every rider from Gary and Kirk at The Rose and Crown. Details of the ride and registration/donation can be found here

For those looking for the usual 10am ride out Mr Bembridge also offers us this little 35 miler….The Route , maybe a donation gets you a burger too?!

Have fun!
