Velos Ride for Sunday 15th September 2013

Sunday Ride

Whilst a few of our group are either broken, on another local ride or enjoying the French countryside this weekend, there are still plenty of us left to enjoy what is forecast to be a dry Sunday morning. Mr Bembridge has once again sent in a route for us to enjoy. We gather at the Rose & Crown from 9:45am with a planned departure of 10am.

10am Bembridge Route

Free Breakfast

If you don’t fancy our ride we have news of a great alternative thing to do on your bike. The Cycle Chilterns team are organising a Free Breakfast for the first 300 cyclists who visit the Chilterns Countryside Festival at Ashridge tomorrow morning. Full details can be found on their website.

Velos on Tour

In addition to the Normandy Invasion that launched earlier this week, there are a couple of other Velos on Tour this weekend. If you would like to find out more, have a look at their blogs : Tour of Corsica and John O’Groats to Lands End

 MK Dons Family Day

On Saturday the 19th October the MK Dons have a Family Fun Day at StadiumMK for their League One match against Rotherham. They have a great deal on the gate where all under 18s are just £1 (adults £10). More details on our Events Page.

 Churches Ride

Well done to the Tea Ride today who did a whistle stop tour of the local Churches. Many thanks to Angela for leading the ride.

Head ’em up! Move ’em out!

So, the Normandy Invasion has commenced with our band of explorers leaving sort of bright and sort of early this morning. We have evidence that they made it as far as P&O check-in. Thereafter… anyone’s guess. Our first guess? The Bar.

For those staying in sunny Blighty this weekend, we have the all important Tea Ride Churches Ride. The fabulous Angela will be “in charge”, leading the way, keeping an eye on things and potentially offering some useful/important bits of local info along the way. (Another key factor on a Tea Ride.)  She will also gladly collect any sponsorship/donation money for the Historic Churches – specifically this year, we are supporting St Mary’s, Ivinghoe.

We have a 16 mile route planned – with only one upward slope – and several tea and cake stops at the churches taking part along the way.

The planned route is:- Vinghoe Velos Ride & Stride 2013

The ride will leave the Rose & Crown at 10am as usual. Including the stops and allowing for Tea Ride protocol of looking after everyone and keeping the ride together, it is anticipate that the ride will be back at the Rose and Crown by 1pm.

Better Late than Never – Deja Vue

A lot of connotations to the title of the post….

“Better late than never” could it be that I have just remembered to put a post out or that Rod Mordey has just joined our mailing list?

“Deja Vue” could it  be that we have all fallen off trying to ‘clip in’ or that the ride that Dave Bembridge has kindly offered for tomorrow resembles last weeks?

So here you go 33 miles of ‘flat’ pleasure leaving the Rose and Crown, as usual at 10am in the morning, thanks Dave!

Have fun and finally “RULE BRITANNIA!”

A Little Normality

Well as close as we’re going to get anyway!

The children are all back at school…. there’s a few rain showers…. and the Tea Ride will be leaving the Rose and Crown, Ivinghoe at 10am on Saturday morning.

Heads Up!

As well as reminding everyone to keep looking around them whilst they’re cycling, a little advance warning that the Tea Ride next Saturday 14th September will a little different.

Following it’s success last year, the Tea Ride will be taking part in the Historic Churches Ride & Stride event – walking or cycling to raise funds for Beds & Herts Historic Churches. It might be sponsorship; it might be a personal donation – every little helps!

We are using our Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/VinghoeVelos to collect sponsorship money & donations.

Broken Bones!

As our very own John Hegarty nurses a double break to his collar bone, yes you were going to fast, it falls to us to keep the spirit of the Vinghoe Velos going as Hegs designs himself a single handed road bike or masters the skills of one handed child care, whilst Mrs Hegs rides :-)!

Andy Beezer has kindly offered to lead a 53 mile ride starting from the Rose and Crown at 0900 tomorrow morning

Whilst there will be the usual ride leaving the Rose and Crown at 1000 this one being a not too hilly 30 mile route.  This ride being paced at between 13-15mph average speed

See you there

Se you

Velos Rides for Sunday 25th August 2013

Our early start ride is a Dave Howe route that we have ridden previously, but to shake things up we are going the opposite way this time. As usual, we meet at 8am to ensure we are back for lunchtime.

8am Route – Tour around Aylesbury Vale

The ‘normal’ 10am start is as below. We don’t have a nominated leader yet so please bring the route on paper or your GPS unit in case you end up being nominated navigator !

10am 24 mile route

The Cat …

..is away… again.  And so, intrepid tea riders, it is up to you to maintain standards and ensure that the Tea Ride goes forth regardless!

Despite the absence of our fearless leader, 10am, Saturday, the Rose & Crown.  The ride must go on!

Ride & Stride

Or as it is more commonly known in Velos circles (pun intended), the Churches Ride, will take place on Saturday 14th September.  We will be putting together a proposed route to encompass as many of the participating churches as possible and a sponsorship page for you collected pennies & donations which, this year, will go to St Mary’s Church, Ivinghoe.  Details will be posted very soon……

Mid-week Ride

We have an evening ride planned by Mr Howe for Tuesday 20th. The meeting point is Pitstone Village Roundabout and the meeting time is 7pm. If you don’t fancy the full 23 miles, there is an opportunity to take a cheeky short cut at Dagnall. Lights are advised if you plan to rehydrate at the Rose and Crown afterwards.

Ride London 100 2014

First up, we have a recommendation. If you fancy having a chance at riding the London 100 in 2014, the ballot has opened and is filling up fast. 60,000 have registered already and they will close it at 80,000 so if you want to give it a go, have a look at their registration page.

Early Start : The Benson Finger

For our 8am ride we are revisiting a great route planned by Mr Beezer earlier this year. It starts out pretty lumpy but we are rewarded with a fantastic downhill run and some lovely villages to amble through. The 2nd half is pretty flat so we plan to ride as a group. There is a shop at the half way point for us to refuel.

8am ‘Early Start’ Route

Usual Velos Ride

Mr Bembridge has kindly contributed a ride for this weeks ‘normal start time’ ride. Unfortunately he can’t lead it out so Sarah has volunteered to head up a steady paced group. As is the norm, we gather from 9:45am at the Rose and Crown Ivinghoe with a view to depart at 10am.
