There has been a few mutterings and conversation amongst a few of us and, as a result, we are planning a trip to ride the Raid Pyrenean in early September !
It’s 720km cycling, following the French/Spanish border, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, with 12000m ascent in 100 hours (4.5 days), taking in the Tourmalet, Aubisque, Col d’Aspin and some other picturesque climbs.
The plan is to fly to Biarritz on 4th September, stay overnight in Hendaye, and then start pedalling on the following day finishing 4 days later in Cerbere. Fly home from Girona on 10th September.
We intend to complete each day as a group with agreed points for regrouping.
We will have a support driver and 5 nights half board accommodation costed at £600. Need to add on top of this flights and bike transport (when I looked it was approx £300), bike box hire, lunches, snacks, drinks etc.
We have reserved 5 twin rooms (10 people) and have 6 already committed (Sarah, David C, Martin, Andy, Rob) so there is space for 4 more people.
If you want more info, have a chat with Dave C, Sarah or Andy B… and if you are interested please let them know by Saturday 10th February so as to confirm rooms and get flights sorted.
Three road rides on offer this week crafted by the fair hand of Mr Howe.
Note that the Mountain Bike Group are planning a ride from the Rose and Crown from 11am tomorrow, so if you fancy a long lie-in please feel free to join them.

As always, we begin from the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe. We always welcome route suggestions so please do send them in via the website.

Three routes to choose from, for a Sunday that is forecast to be dry for a change.
One of our New Year’s Resolutions for the club is to ride better together in groups. A few of the following tips will help towards that –
Dave Howe has kindly crafted a set of routes for us this Sunday. The 9am ride gets a good 14 miles in before stopping by the R&C to join up with the 10am rides. We can then divide into groups based on how fast you want to get home.
As always, we depart from the Rose and Crown at the times stated above. Please do bring a copy of your chosen route with you.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has ridden with us this year. Without you turning up, we wouldn’t have a cycling group so well done for forcing yourselves out of bed, despite the variable weather.
We look forward to a cracking 2018.
