Velos Rides for Sunday 2nd February 2014
The forecast is much, MUCH dryer than last week, which is a good thing as last Sunday was one of the toughest group rides we have endured, mainly due to the rain, sleet, hail, floods and freezing temperatures.
Chiltern 100
Some of our group have expressed interest in riding what is regarded as the toughest Sportive held in around here – The Chiltern 100 that takes place on the 1st June. A few Velos have signed up already to the 110 mile Gran Fondo. If you are considering it, our advice is to sign up now – last year they were full by March !
This Week
This week’s Sunday routes have kindly been submitted by Mr Dave “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” Bembridge. The first is a 31 mile loop taking in Great Gaddesden, Potten End and Hawridge. The second shorter route of 21 miles heads off in the same direction, but cuts back towards home at Potten End. So tomorrow is ideal if you are unsure which route is for you – simply hold off deciding until the split point.
One last thing. The Sun is forecast to be out tomorrow, which normally is a great thing. The only down side is that it sits low on the horizon and can dazzle both us and drivers following us. Please bear this in mind – it may even be advisable to have a rear light on just in case.
Welcome Back!
They’ve been to see the wizard, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
We hear they are back, back in a whiz, for the best reason there was
If ever, oh ever a reason there was, the Tea Ride is it because
Because, because, because, because, because
Because of the wonderful things it does!
They’re back from seeing the wizard, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz…
This weekend we welcome back our friends from their “visit” Down Under – looking forward to them re-joining us on the wonderful Tea Ride again. (No pressure there then!)
In case you’ve forgotten… Saturdays, 10am, The Rose & Crown, Ivinghoe.
Whatever the weather!
The ‘GOM’ (&W) Tour Series continues
After the successes of the last 2 weeks the GOM (&W) meet at Pitstone Roundabout at 1000 on Thursday 30th January for a 49 mile jaunt to Buckingham and back!! Stopping somewhere for a coffee!
For those interested this ride is rolling speed averaging c. 13.5-14mph and is a social group ride ETA back is by 1400 (possibly to the Rose and Crown!)
ALL WELCOME!
Velos Rides for Sunday 26th January 2014
The weather forecast is what city types would call “Sub-optimal” for cycling on Sunday, but we are a hardy lot so no need to fear. A little damp plus gale force winds are just minor distractions from what we are sure will be a “fun ride”.
As always, we meet at the Rose & Crown from 9:45am with a departure time of 10am.
Saturday 10am Tea Ride
Meet at the Rose and Crown for more cycling adventures. A gentle cycle ride somewhere for tea and cake, then back to the pub for more tea or beer- whatever your preference. Pace is as slow as the slowest rider, so come along and see if it’s you! No one gets left behind. We hope to be back by 12/12:30.
The GOM (&W) Series continues
Yes after a highly succesful ride last week the Grumpy Old Men (&Women!) series continues with a ride this week taking you to Woburn for coffee! Meeting at 1000 on Wednesday 22nd at Pitstone Roundabout for a 46 miles spin!
ALL WELCOME
Velos Rides for Sunday 19th January 2014
The ‘two ride’ format seems to be working so we will be continuing that this week.
The Long Route takes us to Stewkley and Soulbury covering just under 30 miles.
Our more reasonable mileage route this week covers 15 miles and heads towards Champneys. The reward for doing this route is a nice fast finish down the Beacon.
As always, please bring a copy of your chosen route with you, either on your GPS device or printed out. We meet from 9:45am at the Rose & Crown, Ivinghoe with an intention to depart at 10am.
It’s All About …. Castlemead Dave
It’s Dave’s birthday, and he’ll ride where he wants to
Ride where he wants to, ride where he wants to
You can come too – we’d like to see you
Nobody knows where the tea ride will go
We always leave at the same time
Why don’t you all come along?
We’ll ride if it’s wet or it’s fine!
It’s Dave’s birthday, and he’ll ride where he wants to
Ride where he wants to, ride where he wants to
You can come too – it’s a fun thing to do
Chat with our friends, keep pedalling a- while
We will not leave you behind
When we reach our birthday tea stop
We’ve got a reason to smile
It’s Dave’s birthday, and he’ll ride where he wants to
Ride where he wants to, ride where he wants to
You can come too – any bike will do
The Vinghoe Velos just walked through that door
Like a court with their King
Oh what a birthday surprise
Dave thinks they’re all going to sing!
It’s Dave’s birthday, and he’ll ride where he wants to
Ride where he wants to, ride where he wants to
You can come too – any bike will do….
So, Dave will ride where he wants to – and he’s even given us a route in advance!
Leaving the Rose & Crown at 10am, come and join the birthday banter!
