The weather forecast isn’t ideal but we will be out and about tomorrow regardless. As always, we meet at the Rose & Crown from 9:50am.

Velos Ride for Sunday 3rd February 2013
Jayne and Stuart are organising a cycle trip to Wallingford on the 2nd March. We have full details on the Wallingford trip page including a form that you can fill in if you want to get in contact with Jayne about joining them.
We now have a page on the website listing any Sportives that people have expressed an interest in. Worth a look if you are thinking about entering one. Please do let us know if you have signed up then we can let others know that they won’t be alone in their quest for big miles !
Another new page is all about the Normandy trip planned for later this year. We will be updating this page soon with more details but, in the mean time, you can use the form on the page to register your interest.
And so, on to tomorrow’s ride. Hopefully the standing water should have drained away a bit so we don’t have a repeat of last week where our route was blocked by a flood at Marsh !
Velos Ride for Sunday 27th January 2013
The forecast is a bit wet in the early morning but, most importantly, warm enough to melt the last remnants of the snow and ice – so we should be good for a road ride on Sunday.
Our route this week comes courtesy of Dave “The Hill” Howe … and unusually for him it is actually relatively flat(ish). We always enjoy rides designed by members so please do send them in.
As always, we meet at the Rose & Crown from 9:50am. As yet, we don’t have a lead rider for the ‘normal speed’ group so we will be looking for a volunteer in the morning.
Velos Ride for Sunday 20th January 2013
The snow and ice are making it difficult to plan for a normal road ride this week so we are going to suggest an off road outing to be on the safe side. As you can see from the picture above, Elke, Sarah & Dave had a fantastic time on today’s Tea Ride which proves that the wintery conditions don’t prevent us Velos from having fun. We would like to draw your attention to Dave’s footwear – this season’s must-have overshoe – wellies.
The route will start as always from the Rose and Crown from 9:50am. We haven’t planned exactly where to go but a venture in to Ashridge is on the cards. Knobbly tyres are a must as much of the ride will be on bridle paths.
Of course, given the unpredictability of our weather, it is possible everything could have thawed by the morning and the predicted snow might not turn up. If members do decide to chance it on a road bike with slick tyres then we can gather a group together in the morning and plan an ad-hoc route – but at this time we are not recommending a road ride on skinny tyres due to safety concerns.
Velos ride for Sunday 30th December 2012
This will be the last ride of what has been a fantastic year for us cyclists. Sir Bradley & Co. have done us proud on the road and track and that naughty American chappie has finally been exposed as a cheating so-and-so. So to celebrate (and maybe to help with shedding any excess calories some of us have taken on-board over the last week) we are going big.
Peter Thompson, who organised the highly successful Normandy Invasion earlier this year, has kindly put together a great route which he describes as not containing any ‘serious hills’. It is around 40 miles but there is a nice shortcut at Stewkley for those who would prefer a significantly shorter route. As always, we meet at the Rose & Crown from 9:50am.
Finally, we would like to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone who has ridden with us this year. We have enjoyed some fantastic rides and more often than not the weather has been kind to us. Let’s hope that good weather continues for our ride tomorrow.
Velos ride for Sunday 23rd December 2012 -Revision too route!
Firstly, many thanks to everyone who joined our Velos Christmas party on Friday evening. It was a FAB evening and once again the Rose & Crown did us proud delivering excellent food and refreshments.
Looks like the roads will be a bit wet and the wind will be blowing a gale for tomorrow’s ride – but the good news is that it will be warm for this time of year and we probably won’t actually be rained on (which is more than can be said for the Tea Ride this morning who braved positively monsoon conditions).
Given the time of year, we will be encouraging members to do something Christmasy for this ride. That might range from a bit of tinsel on the handlebars to a full on Rudolph outfit. Points will be awarded for effort and execution. We gather from 9:50am at the Rose & Crown.
Ride safely.
Velos Ride for Sunday 16th December 2012
Baby, It’s Cold Outside!
But not too cold for The Tea Ride!
10am, The Rose & Crown. Might need your winter woollies to start off with – but you’ll soon warm up!
Velos Ride for Sunday 9th December 2012
Short and sweet this week (that’s me, this posting and the ride).
9:50am meeting at the R&C Ivinghoe.
Velos ride for Sunday 2nd December 2012
Looks like it is going to be a dry but cold one tomorrow so time to get the thermals out.
As usual, we will be meeting at the Rose & Crown from 9:50am. Gary has promised to have a roaring fire ready to defrost us when we return from our adventures.
