Rides for Sunday

Having checked the weather forecast it seems safe to publish rides for tomorrow, for your amusement we have 2 rides planned

The Beezer Blast

Leaving the Rose and Crown at 0800 to take in nearly 71 miles of pretty flat West Bucks Countryside.  This route is likely to see an average speed of between 15-16mph and is being kindly led by Mr Beezer (veteran) himself Beezer’s Blast

The Bembridge Bump

Meeting, as usual, at 0950 outside the Rose and Crown, Dave has kindly offered to lead out one of his favourite, not too hilly routes 31 mile routes.  This route is aimed at being an average of 13 mph and is sure to return to the pub for some rehydration! Bembridge Bump.  We look forward to welcoming new friends from Essex!!

August 4th

Whilst several of us, including Mr & Mrs Hegs, Kate, John, Jose & Andrew will be heading to London to ride 104 miles into the Surrey Hills, raising monies for our various charities, we will as usual have local rides out for everyone else to enjoy.

August 11th

The Inaugural Rose and Crown Charity Cycle Ride raising monies for Cancer Research UK

In closing remember when leaving the Rose and Crown please try and stay on your bikes 🙂

Mid Week Rides and this weeks Social!

Tuesday 9th July – Ride and Social with the Slapton Wheelers

Meeting at The Rose and Crown at 1850 to head off at 1900 we intend to have 2 separate groups.  Group 1 – averaging 16mph with a speed challenge and a lump or two! Group 2 – averaging no more than 13mph with fewer lumps!  We hope this covers off everyone and that we can all get together for a great night in the Rose and Crown to rehydrate at or soon after 2000!  There will also be sample sizes for the new kit for those interested in ordering.  HOPE TO SEE MANY OF YOU THERE!  Even if people aren’t riding it would be fantastic to see friends and others interested in joining up with the Vinghoe Velos in the pub at 2000!

Thursday 11th July – Off Road Ride

Meeting at Pitstone Roundabout at 1930.  Off Road ride ‘good lights’ (“Brighter than the Sun!”) required.  This is however an all ability ride for all those with Mountain Bikes and want to get fitter or at least go down scarey hills!

In signing off well done to the ‘Silverstone’ Riders to see 14 of you meet at 0800 on a Sunday morning for 67 miles was truly amazing!

Mid Week Rides – New Kit – Social with the Wheelers!

Vinghoe Velos complete more than 1100 miles last Sunday!

A great turnout again from the Vinghoe Velos last weekend with at least 5 people riding 101 miles ‘To the Horns’, another 5 riding 54 miles on the ‘Slapton Wheeler’, 8 people following Pete Thompson for 35 miles out to Winslow, one  ‘spotted’ taking on Box Hill on the 63 mile London Cyclo Sportive and of course Mary was out stretching her legs with friends also!  Thats at least 1100 miles ridden by Vinghoe Velos on Sunday alone!  Not forgetting 2 who ‘secretly’ went off and checked out and completed  the route ‘To the Horns’ the day before! (You know who you are!)

 WELL DONE ALL!

Tuesday 2nd June – Evening Road Ride.  Meeting at Pitstone Roundabout at 1900 an average 15 mph road ride of around 20 miles (not to onerous as lots of recovery from Sunday needed!)

Thursday 4th June – Off Road Ride.   Meeting at Pitstone Roundabout at 1930.  Off Road ride ‘good lights’ (“Brighter than the Sun!”) required

(Details of this weekends adventures will be posted later!)

Tuesday 9th June – Vinghoe Velos &  Slapton Wheelers Social.  After a highly enjoyable meet with the Slapton Wheelers 2 weeks ago at the Carpenters Arms, we are delighted that the compliment is to be returned next week.  Meeting at the Rose and Crown at 1900 we plan to do a 15 mph ride returning to the the Rose and Crown at or soon after 2000 to enjoy a drink or two and swap cycling tales with the Wheelers (and the Wheelettes!).  Everyone, who has one, is asked to where their Vinghoe Velos Jersey and all being well the first examples of our new kit will be available to view and sizing kits available for those wishing to order some for themselves.  More details on kit can be found here .  Even if you don’t plan to ride why not join us for a drink!  We also plan to try and raise some money for Action Medical Research details can be found here!

Midweek rides, Sundays exploits and New Kit

Whilst 3 members maintained the Sunday ride tradition from the Rose and Crown, well done guys.  Many people headed off to Stoke Mandeville for the Mix96 Tour De Vale (some on the 35 Mile Route and others on the 55 mile)  irrespective of distance great effort by all and great to see so many jerseys out there!!

The weather promises to be fantastic for the next week so whether you take part in this or just go out with others, enjoy!

New Year – New Bikes – New Adventures

So as 2012 drew to a close a number of our untrepid group gathered again for what is becoming a traditional Boxing Day Walk to the Brownlow Cafe at Ashridge (thank you Ian and Jensigne, we thought of you sunning yourselves in Spain!) before returning to, yes you’ve guessed it, the Rose and Crown.

A great opportunity to talk to great friends and drink Sloe Gin!!  Get it in your diaries for next year.

2013 a New Year

Look out for those new bikes, chaps I fear the Ladies are leading the way with a nice Scott CR1 and a Trek 7.6 (I think) recently seen out for their inaugural rides and watch this space for a lovely piece of Italian ladies specific machinery (no it’s not a chap called Mario!) rumoured to be joining the peleton shortly.  But leading the fashion stakes look out for those lovely red kangaroo skin road shoes 🙂

Challenges seem to be the order of the day for this year and they can come in all shapes and sizes, but it is great to have a personal goal to aim at!  Next Sunday several of the group are looking to tackle the Harp Hilly Hundred, do let us know if you are planning it and please fly the Vinghoe Velos flag!  London to Paris is on the agenda again with at least 3 of the group taking it on details can be found on the Events page.  Please let us know of other events challenges you are planning that you would like to welcome others on!

Tonight at the Rose and Crown from 1930, there is planned a little bit of pre-ride hydration to say farewell to our founder sponsors Alistair and Tracella Owens who are returning to their native shores for several years lets try and send them off in style!

So to Sunday 13th’s rides meeting as usual at the Rose and Crown at 0950

Longer Route – kindly proposed by Dave ‘the hill’ Howe!

Shorter Route – kindly proposed by Dod ‘the mechanic’ Loxley, who has also offered to lead it out!

Volunteers for leading the shorter route each Sunday are asked to email in to let us know their availability please

Finally there have been a number of requests for Jerseys, these are available providing we get a minimum order of 5 at £38 each.  If you are looking to get one please email your interest through the site along with size required.  YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO TRY ON A JERSEY FROM A FELLOW CYCLIST AS THE SIZING FROM THE SUPPLIER APPEAR TO BE INACCURATE, or of course in my case too many pies!
