Sunday Rides

This week we are revisiting some popular routes from earlier in the year. There are a variety of distances including a longer ride starting earlier than the normal 10am.

9am start, 53 miles to Cranfield

10am start, 35 miles via Markyate

10am start, 25 mile local loop

As always, we meet at the Rose and Crown Ivinghoe and recommend bringing a copy of the route.

 2015 Trip to the Peaks

Andy Beezer has put together some plans for a fantastic trip to the Peak District for May 2015. Below are the details of his open invitation –

Who would like to come on a Peak District cycling adventure next May and cycle some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK?

When: Friday 1st to Monday 4th May 2015
Where: Hartington Youth Hostel (http://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/hartington-hall)
What: 3 days of riding (Sat/Sun/Mon) in the Peaks with 2 route options each day, one challenging and another less so, with both routes meeting at a common point for lunch (which means riders can switch groups at lunch time if they wish). One of the challenging rides will go up the famous Winnatts Pass and over Mam Tor.

I’ve made a provisional booking at Hartington YHA for the following rooms:

4 X 2 bed rooms
2 X 4 bed rooms
1 X 3 bed room

The YHA have quoted me a flat rate of £31.50 per person per night (inc breakfast) though there will be an adjustment up or down depending on the room.

Please let me know if you would like to come ASAP as the booking will only be held for a few days.

If you are interested, please head on over to this page ASAP and register your interest. Andy will get right back to you with details of how to secure your place on what will be a popular adventure.

Team Time Trial

The lovely people at The Cog Cafe in Tring are organising a Team Time Trial event on the 26th October with space for 20 teams consisting of 4 cyclists each. A few velos have already  spotted the announcement on The Cog’s Facebook Page and entered themselves. If you and 3 pals fancy it please visit their page Facebook Page and get your entry in.

 A Trip to Italy

A few of the Velos went on a cycling trip to Italy last month and have put their photos online to share with us. Click on this link to have a peek at what was a highly successful trip enjoyed by all who went.

Velos Rides for Sunday 21st September 2014

10am Start, 42 mile route from Mr Howe (includes a short stop at Emily’s Tea Shop)

10am start, 28 mile route via Redbourn from Mr Howe

Pitter Patter

It looks like rain and it’s been comin’ on for hours
It looks like rain I hear the rumble of thunder showers
Pretty soon the rain will play its sweet refrain
While we listen from inside
And until it stops, we’ll hear the drips and drops
From beside the fireside

So let it rain (pitter patter, pitter patter of the rain) (goin’ drip
Drop drip drop)
Yeah and we’ll be happy when it stops (pitter patter, pitter patter of
The rain) (goin’ drip drop drip drop)
‘Cause when it rains (pitter patter, pitter patter of the rain) (goin’
Drip drop drip drop)
The ways of love rise in my heart (pitter patter, pitter patter of the
Rain) (goin’ drip drop drip drop)
We won’t be sad when there is a storm (ooooo)
And we can be glad (ooooo)
‘Cause we can keep warm, yeah, yeah

Listen to the rain
Pitter patter, pitter patter of the rain (goin’ drip drop drip drop)
Pitter patter, pitter patter, pitter patter (goin’ drip drop drip drop)
Pitter patter oooo

Except this is The Tea Ride…. it’s called the wrong clothing, not the wrong weather!

Whatever the weather, all year round, 10am, the Rose and Crown, Ivinghoe.

As for The Beach Boys, we’ll just leave them at home by the fireside whilst we go out and play in the puddles…..

Velos Rides for Sunday 14th September 2014

10646927_10204878632351867_2964481340688679822_nIn celebration of the highly enjoyable Stage 6 of this years Tour of Britain, which took in a good few of our local roads, this week we have a specially designed route from Dave “The Hill” Howe. He starts off by taking us on a gentle journey to Chinnor at which point … well, let’s just say it gets a bit ‘lumpy’. As it is a longish ride we will start a bit early but we will still have a more standard route for those who want to begin at the usual time of day.

9am start 52 miles taking in the Bucks ToB KOM climbs

10am start 36 mile route going anti-clockwise around Hemel

Ride & Stride! With Electric Mary…

This Saturday sees the annual Ride & Stride  in aid of our local, historic churches.  It’s free to take part but they ask that you raise a little sponsorship if you can (or make a donation).  As ever, marvellous Mary has planned us a route.  Most of the churches will provide a drink and some of them have eats as well. The ride might therefore take a little bit longer than is usual for a tea ride.

The plan is:-
Leave Ivinghoe 10.00 as sharp as poss!
Marsworth ( church)
Long Marston (church)
Wingrave (church)
Aston Abbots (church)
Cubblington ( church)
Wing (church) – planned official Tea Stop for us

At this point Tea Riders wanting to make their way home can head off,  down Wing Park hill to the crossroads and then left to Ledburn, take the next right, then the next left, go under Bridego Bridge and then turn right at the T-junction, heading back home through Great Gap and up into Ivinghoe.  Those wishing to do the Full Mary can continue with her, off to Mursley, Stewkley, Mentmore, Slapton, Cheddington and home.

Details of how to donate can be found here, on the Historic Churches Trust website.

Please assemble at the Rose and Crown by 10am for a prompt departure – Mary is in charge!
