Perfect November weather for cycling tomorrow so why not join us for a spin.
Please use a rear light to help drivers see us in the low sun and watch out for the leaves on the corners.
Our rides this week have a stop at St Mary’s Church in Ivinghoe at 11am so that we can join our local community to commemorate the contribution made by our service men and women over the years.
It would be great if everyone who has a Ivinghoe Velos top was able to wear it for this special ride.
Firstly, a massive THANK YOU to the wonderful people who rode, supported and donated to the Doing it for Dan ride last weekend. Despite the cold and wet conditions, the banana baton was successfully escorted around the 15 mile / 15 km course for the full 24 hours. It was lovely to see Dan’s dad and sister join about 20 of us for the final leg.
Between us all we raised an amazing £1,200, which is absolutely marvellous – thank you all !
The weather forecast looks good for tomorrow so please have a look at joining us on one of the following rides.
9am start, a nifty 50ish miles
As always, please bring a copy of your chosen route with you.
P.S. If you haven’t sent in your Doing it for Dan donation yet, please head on over to the Doing it for Dan JustGiving page.
Our rides this week include joining the Doing it for Dan final leg which starts in Cheddington at 11am. Dan’s dad, David, will be the lead rider on the final loop so it will great for us to support him.
9am start, 45 miles that incorporates the 15 mile Doing it for Dan route
10am start, 14 miles to get us to the start of the Doing it for Dan route
Many thanks to everyone who has supported us on the Doing it for Dan ride. If you would like to contribute to this good cause, please visit Dan’s Just Giving Page.
Hi all,
For all of the riders joining us on the 24 hour “Doing it for Dan” fundraiser, we have the full rider info up on the website here – http://www.ivinghoevelos.org.uk/doing-it-for-dan/
Best of luck tomorrow to all of you who are participating.
Firstly, a massive thanks to all of you who have signed up to the Doing it for Dan 24 hour relay. We are so grateful for the support shown by you lovely people.
However, we still have 7 hour-long slots that need a prime rider to carry the baton. If you were on the fence about joining us now is the time to step up and do your bit for a great cause. More details including how to sign up can be found on our original post. If you have any queries or need to borrow a light and battery pack, please ask.
John will be in touch with all the riders this week to firm up the details.
Three on offer this week including a very interesting 9am ride by Dave Howe to visit the Frederick Bidlake Memorial.
Frederick Thomas Bidlake was an English racing cyclist of the late 19th century who became one of the most notable administrators of British road bicycle racing during the early 20th century. The annual Bidlake Memorial Prize, was instituted in his memory. Bidlake favoured the tricycle, winning championships and setting national records, often beating bicycle riders. As a member of the North Road Cycling Club, he helped organise a rebel individual time trial, in October 1895, at a time when the National Cyclists’ Union had banned racing on roads.
The weather looks fab so we would like to encourage all riders to join this 9am ride. We will split in to two groups, one at a normal pace and one at the usual 9am quick pace.
9am start, Visit to the Frederick Bidlake memorial
As always, please bring a copy of your chosen route with you.
We’ve had a good few sign-ups for the 24 hour, relay ride in support of 11 year old, Dan and his family. There are still plenty of free slots though so please join us, be part of something special and help a local family through a really tough time.
The event starts at 1pm on Saturday 27th and will finish at noon on Sunday 28th. Entry is easy – start by adding your name to this list here – Doing it For Dan Spreadsheet of Supporters
For more info about Dan and the events being run to raise money for this cause, have a look at the Doing it for Dan Facebook page.
It looks to be a bit of a washout tomorrow but, just in case the weather gods change their minds, here are a couple of rides.
