Velos Rides for Sunday 27th September 2015

The weather forecast is lovely so why not make best use of it and join us on one of our three rides this Sunday.

9am start, 53 miles to Chinnor with a few lumpy bits on the way back

10am start, 36 mile loop around Hemel Hempstead

10am start, 20 mile flat trip to Cublington

As usual, please bring a copy of your chosen route with you. We start and finish from the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe.

Velos Rides for Sunday 6th September 2015

There is quite a lot going on this weekend so lots of cycling options.

First up there is a the popular ABF ride that many of our members are signed up to. There are a number of distances to choose from and registration available on the day. If you fancy it head on over to the Rear Hub Facebook Group for details of how people are getting there.

Alternatively there is a invite open to all of our members to join Dave Howe and a few of his workmates for a 100k route starting at 10am from Waitrose in Amersham. If you are interested, please head on over to The Rear Hub to see Dave’s post for more details.

And lastly there are two routes available from the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe at our usual 10am start.

10am start, 35 miles to Markyate

10am start, 20 flat miles to Totternhoe

Velos Rides for Sunday 9th August 2015

Another early start on offer this week taking us to Oxford the opposite way to last time. Whilst it will be a fairly long ride, it is relatively flat so if you fancy getting a some big miles in, this might be a good time to do it.
The other two rides are kindly supplied by Mr Dave “Legs” Bembridge, the longer route of which he will be leading a sensible paced group.

8am start, 76 miles to Oxford and back

10am start, 31 miles

10am start, 18 miles

As always, we depart from the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe and ask that you bring a copy of your chosen route with you.

A heads-up about the early starts in the next few weeks : Mr Dave “High Cadence” Howe is suggesting some 100 mile excursions with sensible stops for refreshment along the way. Have a look on our Facebook Rear Hub group to see the discussions.

Sunday Rides

Three rides to tempt you with this week. The forecast is decent so we are including a long early start.

8am Start, 64 miles to Homer & Croxley Green

10am Start, 35 miles to Woburn

10am Start, 25 flat miles to Stoke Mandeville 

As always, we begin from the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe at the time indicated. The early start ride is likely to be at around 16mph average. The other rides will include people doing a more sensible pace and so will suit all abilities. Please bring a copy of the ride with you either on paper or in your GPS cycling computer thingamabob.

Ride London 100

The best of luck to Jose, Elke, Sarah, Julian, Jeremy, Andrew, David, Brian and John who are riding the Ride London 100 tomorrow. We wish you tail winds the whole way round, especially up Leith and Box hills.

Tea Ride

Meet at the Rose and Crown for a gentle cycle ride out for tea, and back again to the pub for more refreshment. The plan is to split the group into two rides meeting at the same tea room. See you tomorrow.

Rides

Two routes to tempt you with this week. There is an option to start the longer ride at 9am in an attempt to reduce the potential exposure to any bad weather that might appear.

9am start & 10am start : 33 miles to Chesham and back

10am start, 23 mile steady paced sheltered ride led out by Mr Dave Bembridge.

As usual, we start end end at the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe. Please bring a copy of the ride route with you.

Welwyn Bike Festival

If you are at a loose end after our Sunday ride, why not head over to the Welwyn Garden Petit Tour. They describe it as –

Kinetic Cycles along with Hertfordshire County Council are proud to present the Welwyn Garden Petit Tour, a one day cycling festival forming part of the inaugural Tour of Hertfordshire Series; showcasing the best of Cycle Sport in Hertfordshire.  Featuring a full day of closed road circuit racing around Howardsgate and the iconic Parkway fountain in the heart of Welwyn Garden City. Local producers will be offering the very best food, drink and entertainment in the region, alongside activities for all ages and abilities… It promises to be a day not to be missed!

Three rides are on offer this Sunday.

9am start, 54 mile loop around Aylesbury

10am start, 37 mile excursion to Eversholt 

10am start, 24 miles of flatness

Please bring a copy of the route either analogue (on paper) or digitally (on your GPS bike computer). We depart as always from the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe.

P.S. We would like to say congratulations to our Velos-on-Tour who have been tackling some iconic alpine Tour de France mountain climbs – Ventoux, Telegraphe, Galibier, Croix de Fer and Alpe d’Huez. Chapeau to you ladies and gentlemen, you have done us proud.

Velos Rides for Sunday 28th June 2015

Sunday Rides

The weather is nice and warm so no excuses not to join us this Sunday for a fabulous ride in our lovely local countryside. Three rides on offer, so something to suit all abilities.

9am start, 50 mile Dave “No real hills” Howe route.

10am start, 29 mile route to Stewkley.

10am start, 23 mile “Easy Sunday Morning 14 mph max pace” route from Dave “VW” Bembridge

As always, please bring a copy of your chosen route. We depart from the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe.

Tuesday Evening Rides

These continue to be popular but not everyone is aware that there usually are at least a couple of groups riding at different paces. We depart from the roundabout in Pitstone (the one near the cricket green) at 6:30pm.

Thursday Evening Ride (off road)

There is a regular off-road ride that departs each Thursday at 7:30pm. We usually head up in to Ashridge or Tring park for some fun on the trails. We welcome new people so please do come along if you fancy something different from the normal road bike stuff.
