Our rides on offer this week are –

9am start, 66 miles via Stadhampton

10am start, 36 miles via Pitchcott

10am start, 19miles via Worlds End

There are a number of rides coming up in the next few weeks that our members are planning on joining –

Tour of Cambridge

Tour de Vale

Dunwich Dynamo

Also, our very own Dave Bembridge is organising another canal path ride, this time as a train ride in to London followed by a bike ride back. No doubt there will be some strategic stops for refreshment along the way. It is scheduled for the 18th June so please have a word with Dave if you are interested in accompanying him.

Velos rides for Sunday May 7th 2017

Three routes to choose from this week.

9am start, 52 miles

10am start, 30 miles

10am start, 20 miles

As always, please bring a copy of your chosen route with you. We ride in groups and rely on each person being aware of the cyclist behind them. If the rider behind you can’t keep up and a gap appears, please do give the front riders a shout that we need to ease the pace to let them get ‘back-on’ to the tail of the group.

Velos Kit
A new order has been opened – there are one or two key items missing from the options at the moment – Sally is on the case so if what you’re after isn’t there, please check back in a day or two.  The order will be open for about a week.  (Another order will be opened later in the year too).
You can login using the “I am a returning customer” login which can be seen via the following link;
http://eucustom.champ-sys.com/Login/en-GB/Default.aspx

Existing members or members that have ordered before can use their current login details.
New members or members that haven’t ordered before, need to use the following login details;
Login: ivinghoe
Password: kit17
Once you have entered these details, you will then be asked to create their own personal login which you can use going forwards.

Velos rides for Sunday April 30th 2017, Velos Kit & Doug’s Funeral

Three rides again this week and it is looking likely that we will miss the rain forecast now for the late afternoon on Sunday.

9am start, 54 miles

10am start, 31 miles

10am start, 15 miles

The Rose & Crown has re-opened and Mick the new owner will be more than happy to assist with any re-hydrating beverages that we might like to purchase after the ride.

Please bring a copy of your chosen route with you in your chosen format. We aim to cycle together in groups of similar paced riders. To help with that, please keep an eye on the rider behind you and be prepared to call to the riders in front if a gap appears. That way the speed can be regulated and no one gets left behind.

Once again this week there will be a Tuesday road ride at 6:30pm and a Thursday off-road ride at 7:30pm. Both start from the roundabout in the centre of Pitstone.

Velos Kit
There is sufficient interest so we will be opening a new kit order this week.  Details will be on the Rear Hub on Facebook during the week and on next weekend’s ride posts.

Doug Clark’s Funeral
All Velos are invited to Doug Clark’s funeral, which will be held at The Sacred Heart Church, Leighton Buzzard, LU7 1HZ on Tuesday 2nd May at 12.30pm.
Afternoon Tea will then be served afterwards at The Rose & Crown, Ivinghoe.
Parking on Ivinghoe Lawn.

Velos rides for Sunday April 23rd 2017

Three rides to tempt you with again this week. Many thanks to Mr Bembridge for sending them in.

9am start, 52 miles via Codicote

10am start, 38 miles via Woburn

10am start, 20 miles via Potten End

Please bring a copy of your chosen route with you. We depart from the Rose and Crown at the times stated above and will refresh ourselves at the Swan in Cheddington after the ride.

There are plans again this week to have informal rides from Pitstone roundabout on :

Tuesday Road Ride at 6:30pm

Thursday Off Road Ride at 7:30pm

Mid-Week Road and Mountain Bike Rides

Tuesday Evening Road Rides

Given the lighter evenings, it is time to formally start the informal Tuesday evening road rides. These start from the Pitstone Roundabout (the one near the Memorial Hall) at 6:30pm. Routes are made up on the night and there is usually at least two groups based on people’s preferred pace.

Thursday Evening Off-Road rides (Mountain or Cyclocross bikes)

If you fancy exploring some of the many local bridleways then there is a fairly regular Thursday night ride that welcomes all, regardless of ability. It launches from the Pitstone Roundabout at 7:30pm. If you are interested then please head on over to the Pitstone and Ivinghoe MTB Facebook Group and introduce yourself.

Velos rides for Sunday April 16th 2017

The weather isn’t looking to be as good as last weekend so we are putting out a short loop for the 9am ride so that it can join the 10am ride.

9am start, a quick loop to get the miles in before joining the 10am 42 mile ride

10am start, 42 miles

10am ride, 22 miles of flatness

As usual, please bring your chosen route with you. We depart from the Rose and Crown, Ivinghoe, which is closed at the moment, so if you would like to refresh yourself after the ride we can end the ride at the Swan in Cheddington or the Grand Junction in Bulbourne.

Velos rides for Sunday April 9th 2017

The sun has most definitely got its hat on so there are no excuses not to be on your bike this Sunday. We have three rides to choose from.

9am start, 66 miles

10am start, 40 miles

10am, start, 20 miles

Given the good weather, we may  have more riders out this week so it is important that each group discusses the potential to split in to pelotons of similarly paced riders. This will help us keep to our motto – “No rider gets left behind”. Please do bring a copy of your chosen route with you either on paper or digital device.

The Rose and Crown is undergoing some refurbishment in preparation for the new owner to take over so it will be closed this Sunday. We continue to begin our rides from the R&C but for those who need some post-ride refreshment, we are suggesting finishing at The Swan public house in Cheddington.

Douglas Clark

Doug aged 18 cycling the Cambrian Wheelers 25 in May 1949

It is with great sadness that we have to report the news that Doug Clark passed away earlier today aged 85. Doug was a keen cyclist and a wonderful friend of the Ivinghoe Velos. Up until recently he would join us on our post ride refreshments at the pub sharing his tales of tough rides and races. The picture above of Doug aged 18 really does capture the how great this man was. Please join us in sending our love and sympathy to his family and especially his devoted wife Daphne.

Goodbye Doug, we will all miss you.
