Velos rides for Sunday August 6th 2017

Sunday Rides

A special ride headlines this week – The Benson Finger. By far our most popular ride, it starts out lumpy but the effort is very much rewarded with some beautiful scenery as we cycle through the villages around Benson.

8am start, 72 miles of The Benson Finger
Please note : There will be two distinct groups for this adventure. Dave Howe will lead a faster paced team while Elke Hegarty (on her birthday!) will ride with a more sensible paced “no-one gets left behind” group. This gives us groups that will suit anyone who fancies giving this a try. Don’t be put off by the mileage – the drag back is flat and we always have a tail wind.

10am start, 40 miles

10am start, 23 miles

Velos rides for Sunday July 30th 2017

9am start, 50 miles – Wardrobe Way

10am start, 39 miles

10am start, 20 miles

As always, we depart from the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe at the times stated above. Please bring a copy of your chosen route with you.

Velos rides for Sunday July 23rd 2017

So when does this pub open?

It’s Our Birthday !

This Sunday is the 7th anniversary of the very first ride of the Vinghoe Velos (as we were called then). In celebration, our resident “long ride” routemaster, Mr Dave Howe has proposed that we relive those heady days of 2010 by riding the very same route. To make things a bit more interesting (and because the pub doesn’t open till noon), the 9am ride will do at least two laps of the route.

Those members who really, really want to make this ‘just like the 1st time’ are encouraged to perform the ride on the same bike as they rode their 1st Ivinghoe Velos outing (or at least, the closest type and weight of bike they current own). There will be extra kudos points awarded to the person who rides the heaviest bike.

Our plan is to arrive back at the Rose and Crown sometime between 12 and 1pm for a photo opportunity. It would be fantastic if everyone who owns a bit of club kit wears it for the ride. It doesn’t matter which if the two generations of club top is worn, the important thing is that we look at least like some of us belong together.

9am & 10am route, 24 miles

10am Short, flat ride 15 miles

Velos rides for Sunday June 4th 2017

Numbers will be a bit lower this week as some of our team are doing the Tour of Cambridge so please do bring a copy of your chosen route with you.

9am start, 54 miles

10am start, 37 miles

10am start, 26 miles

As usual, we assemble at the Rose and Crown in Ivinghoe and depart at the times stated above.

Below are details of the Mr Dave Bembridge’s Canal Ride on Sunday 18th June. Please talk to Dave if you need any more details.

We are planning to catch the 8.35 am from Tring Station to Euston. Short ride to Paddington Basin. Various stopping points along the way but there is a small cafe about halfway by Rickmansworth lock which does a Bacon Sandwich or Cheesey Chips. We will of course be stopping at the Rising Sun in Berkhamsted as it would be very rude not too.

On a serious note if there is a large group on the train we need to make sure we split up along the carriages and maybe more than one group on the tow path.

Final stop is of course the Rose and Crown.

Route will follow shortly but if you have water on one side of you there’s a good chance your going the right way. Just follow the tide.
