Velos Rides for Sunday 7th January 2018

Three routes to choose from, for a Sunday that is forecast to be dry for a change.

9am start, 50 miles

10am start, 37 miles

10am start, 20 miles

One of our New Year’s Resolutions for the club is to ride better together in groups. A few of the following tips will help towards that  –

  • Keep an eye out for the rider immediately behind you – if they start to drift off the back, please call to the lead rider to easy off the pace a bit until they can get back on.
  • Ride a maximum of two abreast and single out when on a narrow lane.
  • Look out for potholes and call them out or signal a warning the rider behind you. The roads are in a terrible state at the moment due to the recent cold weather spell so this is more important than ever.
  • If you feel strong enough, take a turn at the front of the group.
  • Bring a copy of the route with you.

Velos Rides for Sunday 31st December 2017

New Year’s Eve Rides !

Dave Howe has kindly crafted a set of routes for us this Sunday. The 9am ride gets a good 14 miles in before stopping by the R&C to join up with the 10am rides. We can then divide into groups based on how fast you want to get home.

9am start, 55 miles

10am start, 40 miles

10am start, 20 miles

As always, we depart from the Rose and Crown at the times stated above. Please do bring a copy of your chosen route with you.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has ridden with us this year. Without you turning up, we wouldn’t have a cycling group so well done for forcing yourselves out of bed, despite the variable weather.

We look forward to a cracking 2018.

Velos Rides for Sunday 10th December 2017

The weather forecast is for snow, which is a bit sub-optimal when riding on the road bike, so this week we have a single mountain bike ride leaving from the Rose and Crown at 10am. Dave “Ain’t no mountain high enough” Howe has kindly put a route together for us.

10am start, Off-road ride in the snow / sleet

Last call for our Christmas party this Friday. If you fancy being fed, please see Sally, Sarah or Elke.

Remembrance Sunday

One Sunday the 12th November, we will be arranging our cycling route to stop off at a church at 11am to commemorate the contribution made by our  service men and women over the years. For many years this stop off point was St Leonard’s but last year we attended St Mary’s in Ivinghoe.

So that we choose a location that suits the majority of velo riders, we have set up a poll for people to let us know which one of these locations they would prefer. The poll is on our Ivinghoe Velos Rear Hub Facebook group. Please let us know your thoughts in the comments.
